South Suburban College to Host Legal Studies Open Houses in December and January

OAK FOREST, IL–South Suburban College (SSC) is hosting open houses for Legal Studies Programs in December and January, including Paralegal/Legal Assistant and Court Reporting/Verbatim Technology concentrations.

The Paralegal/Legal Assistant Program at SSC prepares students to become highly trained paralegals and legal assistants. SSC has the only paralegal curriculum approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) in the Chicago Southland and Northwest Indiana region. In addition, 89% of the program graduates between August 2021 to March 2022 were working in the Legal Field within six months of graduation. The community is invited to learn about the benefits of the Associate of Applied Science degree and certificate tracks, as well as the opportunity to complete the paralegal program entirely online.

A virtual open house, highlighting the Paralegal/Legal Assistant Program, will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 6 p.m. live via Zoom. Register in advance and access the link from ssc.edu/info. An in-person open house will take place on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. in the Law Library at the Oak Forest Center, located at 16333 S. Kilbourn Avenue, Oak Forest, IL 60452. The attendees at the January open house will receive a free digital professional headshot.

For more information about the SSC Paralegal/Legal Assistant Program, please contact Becky Walters, J.D., Paralegal Studies and Criminal Justice Program Coordinator at (708) 596-2000, ext. 2579 or email BWalters@ssc.edu.

The SSC Court Reporting/Verbatim Technology Program provides students with the opportunity to learn a unique and highly valuable hands-on skill. SSC provides the only program in the area taught at a community college. This career path offers a wide-open job market, flexible work schedule, and excellent income potential. Sophisticated technology has created exciting work in broadcast captioning and stenointerpreting.

These sessions are available at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022 and Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Guests must RSVP in advance via email to LaTherese Cooke, Court Reporting Coordinator, at LCooke@ssc.edu to receive the virtual link. She can also be reached at (708) 596-2000, ext. 3217.
