South Suburban College Announces Dr. Omar Sheriff to Lead Allied Health & Careers Programs into Historic Future


SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–South Suburban College (SSC) announces the hiring of Omar Sheriff, MD, to lead its 12 frontline healthcare programs into a period of significant strategic growth. Dr. Sheriff will report to the Vice President of Academic Services and be responsible for the educational welfare of students and the professional needs of staff within the division. He will also work collaboratively with the VP, program coordinators and faculty to continue to develop and promote programmatic growth and innovation.

Dr. Sheriff earned his MD from Central America Health Sciences University and his MBA in Health Care Management from Purdue University. Dr. Sheriff brings a wide range of experience through his 13-year career in clinical, instructional and leadership roles including Dean of Academic Affairs at Brown Mackie College in Indianapolis, IN, and Allied Health Program Chair at Kaplan College in Hammond, IN. He looks forward to working with the faculty and students in addition to providing leadership for the future advancement of healthcare education at the College.

As the critical need for qualified health care professionals continues to grow, South Suburban College was awarded an historic $51 million capital improvement grant through the State of Illinois’ 2019 capital bill to build a 130,000 square foot, four-story state-of-the-art Allied Health & Nursing Center (AHNC). The proposed Center will provide cutting-edge technology and instructional space that will expand SSC’s capacity for its current programs by more than 260%, while launching four new healthcare programs for future students in Southland community.
