Article V – Qualifications of Student Government Association Senate

A. President

  1. Must be a South Suburban College student enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours and must have successfully completed at least 12 credit hours of cumulative classes prior to the date he or she is elected.
  2. Must have maintained at least a 2.50 on a 4.0 grade point average scale during the time of attendance at the College.
  3. Must secure and return to the Office of Student Life and Leadership, by 12:00 p.m., a petition with at least fifty (50) unduplicated signatures of students currently enrolled in classes at South Suburban College, no later than one week prior to the first day of the Student Body General Elections.
  4. Must submit a resume of qualifications for review.
  5. Must be elected by a simple majority of the ballots cast by the student body.
  6. Must not hold other positions within any of the College’s other student organizations or hold any other position within the Student Government Association while holding the Office of President.

B. Executive Vice President/Chairman of the IOC

  1. Must be a South Suburban College student and have successfully completed at least six (6) credit hours of credit classes prior to the date he or she will take office.
  2. Must have maintained a 2.50 on a 4.0 grade point average scale during the time of attendance at the College.
  3. Must secure and return to the Office of Student Life and Leadership, by 12:00 p.m., a petition with at least fifty (50) unduplicated signatures of students currently enrolled in classes at South Suburban College, no later than one week prior to the first day of the Student Body General Elections.
  4. Must submit a resume of qualifications for review.
  5. Must be elected by a simple majority of ballots cast by the student body.

C. Vice President of Public Relations and Promotions

  1. Must be a South Suburban College student and have successfully completed at least six (6) credit hours of credits classes prior to the date he or she shall take office.
  2. Must have maintained at least a 2.50 on a 4.0 grade point average scale during the time of attendance at the College.
  3. Must secure and return to the Office of Student Life and Leadership, by 12:00 p.m., a petition with at least fifty (50) unduplicated signatures of students currently enrolled in classes at South Suburban College, no later than one week prior to the first day of the Student Body General Elections.
  4. Must submit a resume of qualifications for review by any South Suburban College Community Member.
  5. Must be elected by a simple majority of the ballots cast by the student body.

D. Vice President of Financial Affairs

  1. Must be a South Suburban College student and have successfully completed at least six (6) credit hours of credit classes prior to the date he or she shall take office.
  2. Must have maintained at least a 2.50 on a 4.0 grade point average scale during the time of attendance at the College.
  3. Must secure and return to the Office of Student Life and Leadership, by 12:00 p.m., a petition with at least fifty (50) unduplicated signatures of students currently enrolled in classes at South Suburban College, no later than one week prior to the first day of the Student Body General Elections.
  4. Must submit a resume of qualifications for review.
  5. Must be elected by a simple majority of the ballots cast by the student body.

E. Secretary/Senator

  1. Must be a South Suburban College student and have successfully completed at least six (6) credit hours of credit classes prior to the date he or she shall take office.
  2. Must have maintained at least a 2.25 on a 4.0 grade point average scale during the time of attendance at the College.
  3. Must secure and return to the Office of Student Life and Leadership, by 12:00 p.m., a petition with at least fifty (50) unduplicated signatures of students currently enrolled in classes at South Suburban College, no later than one week prior to the first day of the Student Body General Elections.
  4. Must be selected by simple majority of the ballots cast by the student body.

F. Senators (6)

  1. Must be a South Suburban College student.
  2. Must maintain at least a 2.25 on a 4.0 grade point average scale during the time of attendance at the college. If prior to the first day of elections, a candidate for a senatorial position has not completed a semester of classes, he or she will be expected to receive a 2.0 on a 4.0 grade point average scale at the end of the semester he or she is elected.
  3. Must secure and return to the Office of Student Life and Leadership, by 12:00 p.m., a petition with at least fifty (50) unduplicated signatures of students currently enrolled in classes at South Suburban College, no later than one week prior to the first day of the Student Body General Elections.
  4. Must submit a resume of qualifications for review.
  5. Must be elected by a simple majority of the ballots cast by the student body

G. Fiscal Advisor

The Fiscal Advisor to the Student Government Association shall be the Vice President for Student Development or his/her Designee.

H. Advisor

The Advisor to the Student Government Association will be the Manager of Student Programming.
