SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–South Suburban College’s Adult Education Department offers a wide range of free opportunities for adults to build the basic skills required for success this fall. Registration and the required Placement Test for the free High School Equivalency (HSE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs are by appointment only on August 30 or September 1, 7, 8 and 9, at either 10 a.m. or 5 p.m. Prospective students should register for HSE at (708) 596-2000, ext. 2475 or 2411, or for ESL at ext. 2410, or ext. 2408 for Spanish. A mask must be worn at all times during the testing/registration process.
The HSE program will develop the skills required to pass the High School Equivalency Exams. Fall Semester HSE classes run from September 13 through December 9, 2021. They are conveniently offered in South Holland, Oak Forest and Online. Students interested in HSE can choose classes from General Studies, Math, Welding/ICAPS or CNA-Bridge/ICAPS. ESL classes begin September 19th in South Holland, Oak Forest and Online.
At the time of registration, all students will take a Placement Test and must provide the following items:
- CURRENT STATE I.D. OR DRIVERS LICENSE INDICATING ILLINOIS RESIDENCE
- UNDER AGE 18 – WITHDRAWAL FORM FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL OF CURRENT RESIDENCE
- PROOF OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (HSE only)
Information provided will be kept confidential in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (Public Law 93-380). Priority registration is given to continuing students who are making progress in their studies. Waiting lists will be taken as classes have a maximum number of students who can be served. (Indiana Residents cannot participate in this program.)
