Regional High School Art Student Exhibit & Festival Coming to South Suburban College in February


SOUTH HOLLAND, IL– The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College will host its 24th annual Regional High School Art Student Exhibit from January 27th through the student art festival celebration on February 21, 2020.

The exhibition includes 22 regional high school districts from Illinois and Indiana. Approximately 300 pieces of student artwork will be on display in the galleries and display cases of the Art & Design Department.

All of the participating high school students and teachers will celebrate the exhibition on February 21st from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. with a visiting artist lecture, a gallery crawl reception, and demonstrations in the Digital Graphic Arts Studio, Painting Studio, Ceramics Studio and a special bronze casting in the Sculpture Studio. The Art Festival begins in the Performing Arts Center at 10 a.m. with opening remarks. Visiting guest artist Sergio Gomez, a Chicago-based artist and former SSC faculty, will provide a PowerPoint presentation of his artwork and life experiences in the art world. An awards presentation for the High School Students artwork will follow with Javier Chavira serving as juror of this year’s exhibition. Several businesses, including Jimmy Johns of Homewood will sponsor the awards. Additionally, two Art Merit Scholarships from the Offices of the President and Vice President of Academic Services of South Suburban College will be presented.

The Art & Design Department of SSC is located on the fourth floor, northeast section of the main building on the South Holland campus. The Dorothea Thiel and Photo-Four Galleries are both located within the Art and Design studio complex. The Lee E. Dulgar Gallery is located on the first-floor atrium area of the college. South Suburban College is located at 15800 S. State Street in South Holland, IL.

The public is cordially invited to attend the exhibition and festival free of charge. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. The galleries are closed on weekends and college holidays.
