New Art Exhibition Open to Community at South Suburban College

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL– The South Suburban College (SSC) Art & Design Department presents an exhibition of work by artist Lily Homer titled “It will be in the end these details”. Her art is on display in the Lee E. Dulgar Gallery on the fourth floor of the college’s main campus from March 7 through April 12, 2022.

Homer is a multi-media artist exploring issues of disillusionment, contradiction, Jewish diaspora and absurdity. She works with a range of techniques including embroidery, welding, lacemaking, collage and crochet. Her installations, wall-hangings and sculptures often present confusing or paradoxical situations, neither entirely figurative nor abstract, but somewhere in between.

Homer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in architecture from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiber and material studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She brings her family history of craftsmanship into her work, and develops a visual language from her own experiences with anxiety, irrationality and hope. The components of each object exist in various systems of support: reciprocal, asymmetrical, firm and unstable. Homer invites viewers to consider the ways the built world around us is composed of various interdependent systems of support.

The public is welcome to visit the art exhibition at no charge. Temperature checks, masks and social distancing are required on campus. The Dulgar Gallery is located on the first floor of SSC’s main campus. SSC gallery hours are as follows: Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Galleries are closed on college holidays and weekends.
