CFF Foundation Education Awards

CFF is proud to offer quarterly awards to university and college students! This scholarship will be awarded to a citizen or a Permanent Resident of the United States who is enrolled and taking classes at an accredited college or university in the United States.

CFF will grant selected applicants a $1,500 financial award for their compelling essays on fishing, outdoors, and adventure activities.

You can submit your application via the CFF Foundation Education Award Application Form. To apply, write an essay (up to 1500 words) focusing on one of the questions on the form. The check for the $1,500 award will be sent directly to your college.
 

TOTAL AWARD AMOUNT: Each quarter, one (1) student will be awarded a $1,500 scholarship.

APPLICATION DEADLINES:

  • 1st Quarter: Award recipient is announced by mid-April, for all applications submitted from January 1 through March 30.
  • 2nd Quarter: Award recipient is announced by mid-July, for all applications submitted from April 1 through June 30.
  • 3rd Quarter: Award recipient is announced by mid-October, for all applications submitted from July 1 through September 30.
  • 4th Quarter: Award recipient is announced by mid-January, for all applications submitted from October 1 through December 31.

Marshia McGill-Bowman Scholarship

The Marshia McGill-Bowman Scholarship will be awarded for $1,000 for educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. Preference will be given to students residing in district 510 and must be enrolled in Early Childhood Education.

Eligibility

  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above.
  • SSC students who declare a Early Childhood Education major.
  • Must be enrolled in 12 credit hours (full-time)

Gary Johansen STEM Scholarship

The Gary Johansen STEM Scholarship will be awarded to two students, one freshman and one sophomore, for $2,500 per year, up to two consecutive years. Students must be enrolled in a STEM discipline and maintain good academic standing. Scholarships will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $2,500 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility

  • Must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • SSC students must declare a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related major.
  • Recipients must demonstrate the potential for successful matriculation, academic achievement, and must not have an “F” or “W” on their transcripts (unless a special circumstance is documented).
  • Students may use this to register for Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters.

COVID-19 Student Impact Fund

The COVID-19 Student Impact Fund will be awarded to students who have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards will be determined on a case by case basis until otherwise noted by the Executive Director of the Foundation at South Suburban College. The awards cover educational costs, such as outstanding College debt, tuition, fees, books, and technical assistance such as a laptop. Awards may also be issued to pay bills for students with special circumstances.

Eligibility:

  1. Preference will be given to students with outstanding College debt from the Spring or Summer 2020 Semesters.
  2. Recipients must demonstrate a need such as outstanding College debt, absence of financial aid, or financial
    concerns due to unemployment.
  3. Must be enrolled in a Summer or Fall 2020 course.

Disbursements & Records

  • A maximum award of $600 will be granted to students demonstrating financial need.
  • Disbursements are made by the Foundation Office which manages the COVID-19 Student Impact Fund.
  • Student records and disbursement histories are kept on file in the Foundation Office.

Application Process:

  1. Students shall initiate contact with the SSC Foundation to demonstrate need and grant permission for student and financial records to be reviewed.
  2. Student and financial records are reviewed by Foundation staff to determine financial and academic status.
  3. The Foundation will interview each student following the financial/academic review. The student has the opportunity to give further details including evidence of COVID-19 impact and academic and monetary needs.
  4. The Foundation will review all circumstances to formulate each decision and will contact the student via telephone within 72 hours (excluding weekends) to inform the student of assistance.
  5. All applications that are not selected for assistance are re-examined by the Executive Director prior to informing the student. All decisions are final and are made based on this criteria established by the Foundation Scholarship Committee.

The Chairish “Design Your Future” Scholarship

Overview

We at Chairish, the largest and fastest growing online source for chic and unique furniture, art and decor; are committed to helping college students achieve their dreams. That’s why we are offering, to two deserving students, a scholarship designed to support students from diverse backgrounds and students who are majoring in design-related fields such as architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and engineering fields. If you are overcoming obstacles to earn a college degree, we want to hear from you! Students from all majors are encouraged to apply, but preference will be given to applicants pursuing design and engineering-related fields.

Little Bundle Supermom Scholarship

Overview

The Little Bundle Supermom Scholarship is a student scholarship designed to support single mothers and those who support them and benefit from their love.

Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) Fund Grants

The PBI Fund provides 10 grants of $750 each Spring and Fall Semester to students who have participated in student success resources (tutoring, counseling, reading center, math lab, etc.) and have met the eligibility requirements. The award covers $250 of tuition expenses and provides an additional $500 benefit for other educational related expenses. The PBI application annual deadlines are June 30th for Fall classes and November 30th for Spring classes. Any remaining grants for each semester will be awarded to the first qualified applicants who apply. Contact Student & Enrollment Services at (708) 596-2000, ext. 2303.

  • Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must have successfully completed 2/3 of courses enrolled
  • Must have a recommendation from PBI tutor (if participated in PBI tutoring).

John J. Lanigan, Sr. Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Scholarship

Overview

The John J. Lanigan, Sr. STEM Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) exemplary student who has enrolled in a STEM Program at SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility

  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours for the current Spring semester with a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

John J. Lanigan, Sr. Entrepreneurial Scholarship

Overview

The John J. Lanigan, Sr. Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) exemplary student who has enrolled in an Entrepreneurial Program at SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility

  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours for the current Spring semester with a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

Jane Ellen Stocker Scholarship Fund

Overview

The Jane Ellen Stocker Scholarship fund awards a maximum award of $2,000 to students demonstrating a level of financial need. Students will be awarded during the month prior to Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters to assist students with unmet educational costs. Students must exhibit proof of extreme financial need, the ability for successful matriculation, and have exhausted all other resources for assistance. This scholarship is processed through a special application administered in the Foundation Office in Room 2134.

Eligibility

  • Students must not be eligible for full financial aid, including tuition and books (unless there is a special need, such as an accommodation for a disability).
  • Recipients must demonstrate an extreme financial need, such as an inability to pay to finish college/pay for books, due to special circumstance.
  • Recipients must demonstrate the potential for successful matriculation, academic achievement, and must not have an “F” or “W” on their transcripts (unless a special circumstance is documented).
  • Students may use this to register for Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters.

Fifth Third Bank Scholarship

Overview

The Fifth Third Bank Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) Business & Accounting student at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees books and up to $125 in supplies.

Eligibility

  • Must be a full-time SSC student in good standing
  • Must have declared a major in a field of study within the Business program.
  • Must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
  • Must enroll for a minimum of six credit hours.

Charles & Mary Bartlett Memorial Scholarship

Overview

The Charles & Mary Bartlett Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in the Spring for use in the following Fall, Summer or Spring semesters. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. The recipient must provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member from the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department, and will be selected based on a combination of academic performance and leadership ability.

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.

Carl Buddig & Company Scholarship

Overview

The Carl Buddig & Co. Workforce Development Scholarships are two (2) $1,000 awards for educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. Preference will be given to Carl Budding employees and their children, with the second priority for business and/or manufacturing related majors.

Eligibility

  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • First priority for Carl Buddig employees and their children.
  • SSC students who declare a business and/or manufacturing related major.

John J. Lanigan, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund

The John J. Lanigan, Sr. Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) exemplary student who has enrolled in an Engineering or Manufacturing Program at SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $5,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility:

  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must have a grade point average at or above of 3.0 or above.
  • Must have previously completed 12 credit hours and must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for the current Spring semester.
  • Must complete a site visit to Mi-Jack facility in Hazel Crest after receiving the award.
  • Field of Interest must be in Manufacturing or Engineering.

Special Essay:

  • Connection between the mission of the scholarship (interest in field of study) and applicant’s career interests and/or goals.
  • Successfully articulate how the applicant plans to achieve goals in field of study.
  • Successfully revealing interesting things about applicant (engagement research, volunteer, internship, etc.)

Dwight Lewis Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is in honor and memory of Dwight Lewis. Dwight Lewis is an alumnus of Thornton Township Junior College class of 1962, which is now South Suburban College. His success in life is rooted in his motto “I am a product of education. I believe in education.” To this end, he has established a scholarship to demonstrate his strong belief in education and the support of students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) related programs. The scholarship is $3,000 non-renewable to use only for tuition, fees and books related to current coursework at South Suburban College. It is awarded in the spring, applied the following summer or fall semester and paid directly to the college for disbursement.

Eligibility

  • African American student, U.S. citizen
  • Must be full-time with a declared STEM related major and have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours, with minimum “C” grade in all courses
  • Grade Point Average 2.5 or higher and in Good Standing
  • Recommendation letters from STEM South Suburban College and/or external program faculty members
  • Available for in-person interview
  • Resident of Thornton Township and School District 510
  • List community service and extracurricular activities and provide contact information on separate sheet with application

Diane Wilson Yarborough Fund

Overview

Diane Wilson Yarborough Scholarship is a $1,500 award for African American women pursuing a degree in Business or Education at SSC. The scholarship will be awarded in May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility

  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours for the current Spring semester with a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

Delainey Belle Woloszyn Memorial Scholarship Fund

Overview

The Delainey Belle Woloszyn Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) compassionate student who has enrolled in the Nursing Program at SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The one (1) $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility

  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must submit essay including desire to become a nurse.
  • Must be enrolled full-time in the ADN Program at SSC.

The Links, Inc. Legacy Scholarship (South Suburban Chicago Chapter)

The South Suburban Chicago Chapter of the Links, Inc. awards one (1) $5,000 scholarship to outstanding students attending SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $5,000 awards covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

SSCF Study Abroad Scholarships – THIS PROGRAM TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED

The SSC Foundation Study Abroad Scholarships cover all program fees, tuition, airfare and housing costs. Scholarship recipients are selected by a committee consisting of representatives from International Studies with an application deadline TBA.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
  • Must have completed 15 college level credits at the time of application.
  • Must be enrolled for a minimum of six (6) credit hours during semester prior to departure.
  • Must complete all appropriate application materials, including three letters of recommendation, a personal essay, and a personal interview. All materials may be obtained by contacting Sangeeta Kumar at (708) 596-2000, ext. 2574.

Omelogu ADN Scholarship

Chima Omelogu’s ADN Scholarship Fund will award four (4) annual scholarships to students excelling in Nursing courses at SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 awards cover educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books. A letter of recommendation must be provided by a Nursing instructor at SSC.

Eligibility:

  • Students entering their final year of Nursing must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average; first year Nursing students must have minimum 3.3 grade point average to qualify.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Linda Lyle Larson Art Scholarship

Linda Larson’s Art Scholarship Fund will award one (1) annual scholarship to an exemplary artist who has excelled in Art & Design courses at SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books. A letter of recommendation must be provided by an Art & Design instructor at SSC.

Eligibility:

  • Must have demonstrated a special talent and passion for an artistry in at least one SSC Art & Design course.

Illiana Financial Credit Union Scholarship

The Illiana Financial Credit Union Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students attending or entering SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books. The Illiana Financial Credit Union Scholarship recognizes outstanding community service and leadership qualities.

Eligibility:

  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must have declared a major or be enrolled in a program leading to a certificate or degree.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding community service and leadership ability (as determined by the SSCF Scholarship Committee).
  • Must submit a one-page personal summary.

Illiana-Your Door to Opportunity Scholarship

Illiana Credit Union’s Your Door to Opportunity Scholarship Fund will award two (2) annual scholarships to Latino students attending or entering SSC. The scholarships will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 awards cover educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books. Recipients must be of Latino/Hispanic descent, and demonstrate strong leadership qualities.

Eligibility:

  • Must have identified as Hispanic or Latino on the SSC Admissions Application.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must have declared a major or be enrolled in a program leading to a certificate or degree.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding community service and leadership ability (as determined by the SSCF Scholarship Committee).
  • Must submit a one-page personal summary.

Latino Outreach Scholarship

The Latino Outreach Scholarship is a $1,000 award presented to one outstanding Latino student for use in the following Summer, Fall, or Spring semesters. The award will be determined by a combination of academic excellence and essay. The award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  • Must have identified as Hispanic or Latino on the SSC Admissions Application.

LaPrentis Cudjo Memorial Scholarship

The LaPrentis Cudjo Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 award presented to an SSC student to be split between each of the following Fall and Spring semesters. The award will be determined by a combination of academic excellence and essay. The award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at SSC.

Eligibility:

  • Must complete a minimum 3-5 page essay on the importance of education:
    • to realize dreams; or
    • to combat poverty; or
    • to combat crime/violence; or
    • to combat unemployment; or
    • to combat homelessness.

Joe Rejholec Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Joe Rejholec Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one exemplary student who has enrolled in Art & Design courses at SSC. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books. A letter of recommendation must be provided by an Art & Design instructor at SSC.

Eligibility:

  • Must have enrolled in at least three Art & Design classes to date.

High School Scholarships

The SSC Foundation High School Scholarship Program will award up to a total of 16 $1,000 scholarships each year to incoming high school graduates. Scholarships are available to graduating seniors at high schools within Community College District 510 and Lake County, Indiana. Students will be selected based on academic excellence, leadership ability, and sound character as determined from the Application Packet. Students may apply for the SSCF High School Scholarships at any time pending their high school diploma and final grades. Scholarships may be awarded through the summer and fall class start date at SSC, as availability permits.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must submit a recommendation letter from a high school or technology educational instructor.

High School Dual Credit Scholarships

Overview

The SSCF High School Dual Credit Scholarship Fund will award up to a total of nine (9) scholarships each year, with one (1) allocated to each of the nine public high schools within SSC District 510. These $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to incoming high school graduates who previously completed at least three (3) dual credit courses with grade of “B” or above. The scholarships may be used starting with the fall semester after high school graduation. Students will be selected based on academic excellence, leadership ability, and sound character as determined from the Application Packet.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Letter of recommendation from high school instructor or counselor.
  • Must register as full time SSC student status.

High School Construction Technology Scholarship

The Construction Technology Scholarship is a South Suburban College Board of Trustees Scholarship. This scholarship is a full tuition waiver to be awarded in the Spring for use in the following Fall or Spring semester.

Eligibility:

  • Shall be a graduating high school senior who has maintained a 2.0 grade point average.
  • Must enroll as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) in construction technology.
  • Must be a resident of District 510.
  • Must submit an application form and two letters of recommendation from a faculty member of the applicant’s high school.

Selection Process:

A three-member selection team will judge applications submitted by eligible candidates. Team members shall be chosen by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, with at least one of the members being a full-time faculty member in the SSC Building Construction Technology Department.

Duration of Tuition Waiver:

A student shall be entitled to financial coverage for the necessary credit and/ or development hours needed to receive the degree. A minimum “C” average must be maintained for the duration of the tuition waiver award.

Don Goff Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Don Goff Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student who commits to assisting the SSC Foundation’s fundraising/event efforts in 2021. The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

SOLES Scholarship

The SOLES Scholarship is a $1,000 award presented to one (1) outstanding Latino student for use in the following Summer, Fall, or Spring semesters. The award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. Recipients must be of Latino descent and must complete a 500 word essay addressing the following questions:

How has your heritage impacted your life and view of your future?
Discuss the various ways in which you contribute to your community?
How will your education impact you, your family and your community?

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in a degree seeking/certificate program.
  • Must enroll for a minimum of six (6) credit hours.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.

VanEekeren Family Scholarships

The VanEekeren Family Scholarships are five (5) $1,000 awards for a combination of academic progress (with a GPA between 2.25 – 3.25) and leadership ability. Applicant shall not have an “F” or “W” (failed or withdrew from class) on their transcript.

Eligibility

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average between 2.25 – 3.25.
  • Must not have received an “F” or “W” on their transcript.

UPS Scholarships

Five (5) $1,000 scholarships sponsored by United Parcel Service will be awarded to students for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semester.

Eligibility

  • May be a full- or part-time student.
  • Must enroll in minimum of six (6) credit hours.

Thornton Township Historical Society Scholarship

The Thornton Township Historical Society Fund will award two (2) $1,000 scholarships to History students in the Spring for use in the following Summer, Fall and Spring semesters. The awards cover educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from an SSC History or Social & Behavioral Sciences faculty member.

Eligibility

  • Must be a current SSC student with a GPA of 3.0 or above.

The 2021 scholarships are awarded in memory of: Sherwood & Helen Cotton, Mary Alice Smith, Emma & Robert Albrecht.

Theda Hambright Scholarships

The Theda Hambright Scholarships are $1,000 awards presented each May at the annual HSE graduation ceremony. Applicants must be nominated by a HSE and/or ESL Instructor or Coordinator. Completed applications will be submitted and reviewed by the Theda Hambright Scholarship Fund Committee.

Eligibility

  • Must have studied at one of South Suburban College’s HSE programs.
  • Must be a current HSE graduate of South Suburban College.
  • Must participate in a South Suburban College HSE graduation ceremony.

Terrence Wright Memorial Scholarship

The Terrence Wright Memorial Scholarship $1,000 award is given to a deserving student whose interest in theater has been demonstrated in (in order of priority) scenic design and set construction; lighting, sound and makeup; or costuming, design and construction. If a student in the technical arts of the theater does not apply, then consideration will be given to primary interest in acting, directing, playwriting, or TV and radio.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours for the Spring semester and have a minimum 2.7 grade point average.
  • Must submit an application form plus a written statement including the students theatrical accomplishments, such as scene designs, lighting designs, costume designs, roles performed, plays directed, sample writing, and TV or radio experience.
  • Students whose primary interest is performance must demonstrate their ability through audition in the form of two, five-minute cuttings: one comedic and one serious.
  • The student chosen will devote extra curricular time to the South Suburban College Theater Department as an active participant in the theater program offered at the school.
  • Student must portray a desire to continue in theater as a vocation or avocation.

South Suburban College Foundation Summer School Scholarships

South Suburban College Foundation Summer School Scholarships will be awarded to 35 students in the Spring for use in the following Summer semester. The $400 awards recognize outstanding academic performance by students attending South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours.
  • Must be enrolled in classes during the current Spring semester.

South Suburban College Foundation Returning Adult Scholarships

South Suburban College Foundation Returning Adult Scholarships are $1,000 awards presented to four (4) returning adult student attending South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must be a returning adult, age 28 or over.
  • Must have completed a minimum of nine (9) credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.
  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours for the current Spring semester.
  • Must have a declared major and/or be enrolled in a specific program leading to a certificate or degree.

South Suburban College Foundation

Five (5) South Suburban College Foundation Scholarships. The $1,000 awards recognize outstanding academic performance.

Eligibility

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • Must have completed a minimum of nine (9) credit hours.

Smith V. Brand Scholarship

The Smith V. Brand Scholarship in the Fine or Performing Arts is a $1,000 award recognizing outstanding academic performance with an emphasis in the Fine or Performing Arts curricula or courses to be considered include: Art, Drama and Theater, Music, Creative Writing, or courses in the Performance Arts.

Eligibility

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above on a minimum of 12 hours.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for the current Spring semester.
  • Must have completed or be completing at the time of the scholarship award a minimum of nine (9) credit hours in the Fine or Performing Arts.

Rocky Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Rocky Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 to assist students with disabilities at SSC. Awards are distributed year-round as funds permit. Candidates must initiate contact with the SSC Foundation Office in order to demonstrate special need, complete the application process, and grant permission for student records to be reviewed.

Eligibility

  • Recipients must provide SSCF Office with a copy of an Accommodation from SSC Disabled Student Services Office.
  • Must demonstrate a need for funding for the following:
    • Tuition, books, supplies or bus passes,
    • Transportation, adaptive technology like tape recorders or reading software,
    • Funds for repeating a course due to disability.
  • A MAXIMUM award of $750 will be granted to qualified students.

Ralph Jerry Berg Memorial Scholarship

The Ralph Jerry Berg Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 award recognizing good citizenship, community service, and responsibility.

Eligibility

  • Must have completed a minimum of nine (9) credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours for the current Spring semester.
  • Must have a declared major and/or be enrolled in a specific program leading to a certificate or degree.
  • Must enroll in at least six (6) credit hours for the upcoming Fall semester.
  • Must submit a letter of recommendation from a South Suburban College faculty member.
  • Must have resided in the Village of Dolton for at least one (1) year.

Providence Bank Scholarships

The Providence Bank Scholarships are three (3) $1,000 awards made to graduates of Thornwood High School or to residents of South Holland. The $1,000 awards cover educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.

Eligibility

  • Must have a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Must enroll for a minimum of six (6) credit hours.
  • Preference given to Thornwood High School graduates, or to residents of South Holland.

Pearson Prentice Hall Technology Book Scholarships

Five (5) $1,000 and four (4) $220 book scholarships are sponsored by Pearson Prentice Hall Educational Partnership Program throughout the academic year.

Eligibility

  • Preference will be given to students in high school Tech Prep programs.
  • Must be enrolled in MIS or CIS Degree or certification programs.
  • Must have completed one semester of at least 12 credit hours before submitting an application.
  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
  • Applicant is restricted to only one per semester of the above scholarships.
  • Must be recommended by an MIS or CIS faculty.

One Million Degrees (OMD) Signature Scholarship Program at SSC

The One Million Degrees (OMD) Signature Scholarship Program can help pay for school and much more. The OMD scholarship provides “last dollar” financial assistance which covers the remaining balance of tuition and fees, if any, after financial aid has been applied. OMD Scholars also receive a performance-based stipend award of up to $1,000 for the academic year. OMD also provides a complete set of supports for community college students to help them succeed in school and in life. Students selected as an OMD Scholar will become a member of a community of students, volunteers and supporters committed to ensuring their academic, professional and personal goals. OMD Scholars benefit from financial, academic, and professional development opportunities including:

  • Coaches for career advice.
  • Monthly professional and personal development workshops.
  • A dedicated accountability partner with a Program Coordinator.
  • Free one-on-one tutoring in any academic subject.
  • Tuition assistance and a stipend to defray other educational costs, the cost of books, uniforms, and transportation.

Eligibility

  • Graduating high school seniors and current community college students with a 2.0 GPA or returning adult students.
  • Applicants must be enrolled as full-time South Suburban College students (a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) and be pursuing their first degree/certificate.
  • Applicants must be eligible for In-District tuition rates.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents eligible for federal and state financial aid and demonstrate proof of filing the FAFSA.

The Next Career Scholarships are five (5) $1,000 awards for students who complete a Bachelor’s Degree and are returning to South Suburban College to pursue a second degree. The $1,000 scholarships are awarded to returning adult students enrolled in a specific career program of study leading to employment.

  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours for the current Spring semester.
  • Must have completed at least nine (9) credit hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
  • Must provide evidence of having received Bachelors Degree.

Land O′Frost Scholarships

The Land O′Frost Scholarship is a $1,000 award given to a talented student attending or entering the South Suburban College finance, business, or related programs.

Eligibility

  • Must enroll for a minimum of six (6) credit hours during one of the semesters of the scholarship year.
  • Preference given to students who are who are Land O′Frost employees, or family members of Land O′Frost employees.

Karen Tews Returning Adult Scholarship

The Karen Tews Returning Adult Scholarship $1000 award recognizes a returning adult student attending South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must be a returning adult, age 25 or over.
  • Must have completed a minimum of nine (9) credit hours with a 2.7 grade point average (cumulative or last semester attended).
  • Must be enrolled in at least 4.5 credit hours for the current Spring semester.
  • Must enroll for a minimum of 4.5 credit hours for the upcoming Fall semester.
  • Must have a declared major and/or be enrolled in a specific program leading to a certificate or degree.
  • Preference given to applicants who are not receiving other financial aid or employer subsidy and are employees of Midwest Sintered Products Corporation.
  • Second preference is given to students who reside in the Riverdale/Dolton area.

John Slager Sr. Memorial Scholarship

The John Slager, Sr. Memorial Scholarship is a $1000 award for a returning adult student of South Suburban College. Qualities of leadership and service to the local community as well as evidence of good academic performance will be considered in selection.

The John Saphir Scholarship $1000 award is given to students enrolled in South Suburban College Business programs.

  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of three (3) credit hours for current Spring semester.

John Marzullo Memorial Scholarship

The John Marzullo Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a returning adult student in the Spring for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books. The recipient must provide a letter of recommendation from the theatre/performing arts of SSC.

Eligibility

  • Must have participated in the performance or technical support of a PAC Rats or Children’s Theatre Company production.

Joe Adamek Accounting Scholarship

Overview

The Joe Adamek Accounting Scholarship is a $1000 award for a student attending South Suburban College who has declared Accounting as a major leading to a certificate or degree.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours for the current Spring semester with a grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • Must have completed ACC 120 & 121.

Jim Steimle Information Systems Scholarship

Overview

The Jim Steimle Information Systems Scholarship $1,000 award is presented to a returning adult student to continue or complete a degree in information systems or a related curriculum leading to employment or providing a first step toward a Bachelors degree at a senior college or university. Qualities of leadership and service to the local community as well as evidence of good academic performance will be considered in selection.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled in at least three (3) credit hours for the current Spring semester.
  • Must have successfully completed at least six (6) credit hours of coursework with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
  • Must enroll for a minimum of three (3) credit hours for the upcoming Fall semester.
  • Must have a declared major in Information Systems leading to a certificate or degree.
  • Special consideration will be given to single parents over age 25.

Jean Sedlack Scholarship

Overview

The Jean Sedlack Scholarship $1000 award recognizes outstanding academic performance in foreign language by a student attending South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must have completed a minimum of nine (9) credit hours, including one foreign language course, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above at South Suburban College.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours for current Spring semester.
  • Must have a declared major and/or be enrolled in a program leading to a certificate or degree.

J. Albert Kindig Memorial Scholarship

The Office of Communications and Humanities of South Suburban College is accepting applications for a $1,000 scholarship in memory of the late Dr. J. Albert Kindig.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be full-time students at SSC involved in Communications and Humanities and intending to continue their study and/or involvement in the arts at SSC or a transfer institution.
  • Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.

Application Procedures

  • Faculty member submits a written recommendation to the Office of Communications and Humanities for the student she/he feels best fulfills the requirements for a Kindig Scholarship applicant.
  • Faculty member informs student that she/he has been nominated for the scholarship and gives the student an application form.
  • Student submits to the Office of Communications and Humanities the scholarship application form, including a 300-word-or-less essay explaining how the scholarship would contribute to the future goals of the student in the arts.
  • Transcripts for all the applicants are obtained by the Office of Communications and Humanities from Admissions and Records.
  • The Office of Communications and Humanities will forward all application forms, recommendations and transcripts to Mary Kindig to select finalists.
  • Mrs. Kindig reviews materials, interviews finalists and makes the final selection.

Illinois Community College System Foundation (ICCSF) Healthcare Scholarship

The ICCSF Healthcare Scholarship is two (2) $800 awards that may be used for tuition, books, syllabi/study guides, or expenses directly related to his/her health profession program. The recipient of the Illinois Health Improvement Association Scholarship (IHIA) should be a student who is enrolled in a healthcare program that provides direct medical care to individuals, such as the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), and Radiologic Technology (RAD) Programs.

Eligibility

  • Must be a resident of the State of Illinois.
  • Must have “demonstrated financial need” including middle-income students.
  • Must be in good academic standing as defined by a student possessing a cumulative grade point average of 3.25.
  • Must submit a one-page typed narrative describing what or who inspired him or her to choose the field that they are currently enrolled in and what he or she envisions his or her future role as a caregiver to be.
  • Selection of award recipients will be made by a faculty committee representing the respective Allied Health and Nursing Programs. Selection criteria will not be based on race, creed, sex, religion, or national origin.

George Dammer Scholarship for Adults

Overview

The George Dammer Scholarship for Adults are two $1,000 scholarships awarded to outstanding SSC students over 25 years of age who are currently taking nine or more credit hours. The scholarships will be awarded each Spring for the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be enrolled in 9 credit hours.

GELITA USA – Chicago Gelatine Scholarship

The GELITA USA – Chicago Gelatine Scholarships are presented to two (2) SSC students for use in the Summer, Fall or Spring semesters. The two (2) $1000 scholarship awards will recognize returning adults or freshmen students attending South Suburban College. The scholarship awards covers educational costs such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must enroll in a minimum of nine (9) credit hours per semester.
  • Must have a 2.7 grade point average.
  • Must submit an application form and two (2) letters of recommendation.
  • Must be a resident of District 510.
  • Priority given to applicants who are not receiving other financial aid or employer subsidy.
  • South Suburban College staff, Foundation directors, Board of Trustees members and their dependents are not eligible.
  • Preference given to family members of GELITA USA – Chicago employees, and residents of Calumet City.

Frank M. Zuccarelli – Thornton Township Scholarship

The Frank M. Zuccarelli-Thornton Township Scholarship will be awarded to a South Suburban College student in the Spring for use throughout their academic career at SSC. The $2,500 award covers all educational costs such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. The recipient will be selected based on the best demonstration of leadership ability and community involvement.

Eligibility

  • Must have a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours.
  • Must be a resident of Thornton Township and School District 510.
  • South Suburban College staff, Foundation Directors, and the Board of Trustees and their dependents are not eligible.

Frank L. Griffin Memorial Scholarship

The Frank L. Griffin Memorial Scholarship is a $1000 award with preference given to a journalism student. Secondly, to a student who is majoring in business.

Eligibility

  • Must have a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Must have a minimum of 15 credit hours.
  • Must enroll for a minimum of six credit hours.

Frank J. Pavelin Memorial Scholarship

The Frank J. Pavelin Memorial Scholarship $1000 award recognizes artistic talent and dedication by a student attending or entering South Suburban College who designates an area of the fine arts as a curriculum major.

Eligibility

  • Must have declared visual or performing art as a curriculum major.
  • Must enroll for six credit hours during one of the semesters of the scholarship year.

Francis Meyer – Bank Calumet Scholarships

Three (3) Francis Meyer – Bank Calumet Scholarships will be awarded for $1,000 each based on academic performance, with preference given to Indiana residents.

Eligibility

  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.

First Merchants Bank Scholarship

The First Merchants Bank Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) Business student at South Suburban College. The $1000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books. The recipient must provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member within the Business program.

Eligibility

  • Must be a full-time South Suburban College student in good standing.
  • Must have declared a major in a field of study within the Business program.
  • Must have a 2.75 grade point average or higher.

Ed Miniat, LLC 5th Generation Scholarships

The Ed Miniat, LLC 5th Generation Scholarships are two (2) $1,000 awards for educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. Preference will be given to Ed Miniat employees and their children, with the second priority for business-related majors. Applicants do not have to reside in College District 510. A special 300-word essay should be included in application packet as follows:

“As a family company, Ed Miniat, LLC is founded on family values. What are your family values and how will they contribute to your success?”

Eligibility

  • First priority for Ed Miniat employees and their children (must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average), OR
  • SSC students who declare a business-related major (must have a 3.0 grade point average).

Dr. Gloria J. Taylor Adult Education Scholarship

The Dr. Gloria J. Taylor Adult Education Scholarships will be awarded each year to two (2) HSE graduates who earned between 580 – 660 points on his/her HSE Examination. The $1,000 award covers tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must have attended and graduated from South Suburban College’s HSE Program.
  • Must have earned between 580 – 660 points on the HSE Test.
  • Must enroll as a full-time student at South Suburban College for the 2020-21 school year.

Donna J. Yukich Memorial Scholarship

The Donna J. Yukich Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 award for a new or continuing student at SSC.

Eligibility

  • May be a new or continuing student.
  • Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  • Must enroll in a minimum of 9 credit hours.
  • Must be a resident of Lake County, Indiana.
  • Recipient will be selected by committee as determined by the scholarships founder.

Don Kramer Memorial Music Scholarship

The Don Kramer Memorial Music Scholarship is two (2) $500 awards are to assist in the educational development of students majoring in Music.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time music major.
  • Must be enrolled in MUS 197 (Jazz Ensemble) and MUS 195 (Symphonic Band).
  • Must be recommended by the Instrumental Music Director.
  • Must audition for the Instrumental Music Director and/or music faculty.
  • Selection will be based on appearance and music ability.

Docter Enterprises, Bert J. Docter Second Chance Scholarship

Overview

The Docter Enterprises, Bert J. Docter Second Chance Scholarship will be awarded in the Spring for use in the following Summer, Fall and Spring semesters. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. The award recognizes outstanding community service by students attending South Suburban College. Preference will be given to graduates of the college’s HSE program.

Eligibility

  • Must demonstrate outstanding community service (as determined by the Foundation Scholarship Committee.)
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours.
  • Must be enrolled in classes during the current Spring semester.
  • Preference given to HSE graduates and applicants who are not receiving other financial aid or employment subsidy.

City Of Harvey 1st Ward Community – Service Scholarship Program

Purpose:

To promote community volunteerism in 1st Ward residents, and encourage ongoing continuing education.

Funded by:

Shirley Drewenski, 1st Ward Alderman. Alderman Drewenski, in conjunction with South Suburban College, will offer grant scholarships valued up to $300 per semester at SSC through their Continuing Education Department for individuals over ten years old. Value is based on Continuing Education course/program cost.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be a 1st Ward resident from the City of Harvey.
  • Applicants must demonstrate community leadership and/or activism.
  • If the applicant is a minor, written parent consent is required.
  • The scholarship is neither refundable nor transferable to another individual.

Application Procedures

  • Applicant shall communicate with the 1st Ward Alderman via email at sdrewenski@yahoo.com for pre-approval, to determine eligibility and to confirm funding is still available.
  • Student records will be reviewed by the Foundation staff and the 1st Ward Advisory Committee.
  • The Foundation will contact the applicant within four (4) business days to inform the applicant of the scholarship award decision.

Chlebicki Scholarship

Overview

The Chlebicki Scholarship will be awarded in the Spring for use in the following Summer, Fall, or Spring semesters. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books at South Suburban College. The award recognizes outstanding academic accomplishment in construction technology or computer aided design by a student attending South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must have declared a construction technology or computer aided design curriculum major.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours for the current Spring semester and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  • Must enroll for a minimum of six credit hours for the upcoming Fall semester.

Carol Manning Student Assistance Fund

 

Overview

The Carol Manning Student Assistance Fund awards varying amounts up to $450 during the month prior to Spring and Fall semesters to assist students with unmet educational costs. Students must exhibit proof of extreme financial need, the ability for successful matriculation, and have exhausted all other resources for assistance. This scholarship is processed through a special application administered in the Foundation Office in Room 2134. Please email foundation@ssc.edu for more information.

Business & Career Institute Work Force Development Scholarship

Overview

The Business & Career Institute Work Force Development Scholarship is a monetary award up to $1,000 per short-term, non-credit training course offered by the College. The scholarships are intended for adults seeking to upgrade their employability skills. Up to four scholarships may be awarded in any calendar year. A committee designated by the management staff of the Business & Career Institute selects recipients. Decisions of the committee are final.

Eligibility

  • Must submit an application form and/or narrative demonstrating financial need.
  • Must demonstrate applicable link to current job or career goals.

Bill Naegele Memorial Scholarship Fund

Overview

The Bill Naegele Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) exemplary student who is pursuing their education in a STEM-related field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics). The scholarship will be awarded each May for use in the following Summer, Fall or Spring semesters at South Suburban College. The $1,000 award covers educational costs, such as tuition, fees and books. Recipients will be required to participate in six hours of mentoring verified in writing by a STEM faculty member for the following Fall or Spring Semester in which they are registered.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student.
  • Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must have successfully completed MTH 165.
  • One letter of recommendation from a STEM faculty member.
  • Must be a credible, willing candidate for mentorship.
  • Must complete mentoring component or scholarship is subject to revocation.

Reverend Cartha McKenzie Sr. Scholarships

The Reverend Cartha McKenzie, Sr. Scholarships are two (2) $1,000 awards presented in the spring for use in the following Summer, Fall, or Spring Semesters.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student during each semester (12 credit hours or more).
  • Shall be a graduating high school senior who has maintained a 2.5 grade point average or above.
  • Demonstrated financial need.

Jane Dillon Memorial Scholarship

The Jane Dillon Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 award for a new student entering South Suburban College.

Eligibility

  • Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  • Must enroll in a minimum of 9 credit hours.
  • Must be a resident of Lake County, Indiana.
  • Recipient will be selected by committee as determined by the scholarship’s founder.

Board of Trustees Scholarship

Overview

The Board of Trustees Scholarship is a non-need-based, two-year award made to outstanding graduating high school seniors who have resided or attended high school in South Suburban College District 510 during their entire senior year. These scholarships cover a maximum of 12 credit hours per semester for Fall and Spring semesters only.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a senior at any of the following high schools: Bremen, Hillcrest, Oak Forest, Thornton, Thornton Fractional North, Thornton Fractional South, Thornridge, Thornwood, Tinley Park or reside in District 510 and attend high school during his or her entire senior year.
  • Ranking in the top 15 percent of high school graduating class or a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must plan to enroll as a full-time student.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA at SSC.
  • Application deadline: June 30, 2021
