Twenty-five students from high schools within the 2nd Congressional District participated, submitting entirely original works. The overall winner, James "Drew" Richardson, of Walter Payton High School, will now have his work "Train of Thought" displayed in the U.S. Capitol building for one year. Loreta Sutkus, of Homewood-Flossmoor High School, received 2nd Place for "Power Up the System," while 3rd Place went to Isabel Angulo, of Thornton Township High School, for "Special Deliveries." They will have their works displayed in Kelly's District Offices. Additionally, the judges selected three honorable mentions: Jamaal Gayles of Homewood-Flossmoor for "The Shame of Us," Ricky Palmer of Homewood Flossmoor for "I came to meditate to my Flute music," and Nathan Williams of Bloom Trail High School for "Fairy Tale." All six of the students recognized were presented with a free Art & Design class of their choosing at SSC.

The high school art competition was established by the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 to acknowledge and support the artistic talent of America's young adults. Since that time, over 650,000 students have participated. For more information, call (708) 679-0078.
