Artwork by Burleigh Kronquist and Jenny Roberts
April 2nd through 21st
Collagists, cubists, conceptualists and other artists have incorporated magazines and newspapers into their work since the early twentieth century. Pervasive and ubiquitous codifications of contemporary culture, out of date as soon as they are printed, these temporary, ephemeral objects are inherently absurd and melancholy. Taking magazines and newspapers as both material and subject, artists Burleigh Kronquist and Jenny Roberts (separately) make work that reflects on, plays with, and “reads” these materials, rearranging or altering layers of visual and textual information to reveal dormant beauty and explore latent meanings.
